The Gītā’s first lesson: you are an eternal spirit soul, not this temporary body. The body changes from childhood to old age and is finally given up, but the soul is never born and never dies — at death it simply accepts a new body, as a person changes worn-out clothes.

Chanting God’s names is the simplest spiritual practice for this age. The maha-mantra — Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare, Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare — is a prayer to be engaged in His service. Chanted daily, it steadies the mind and awakens a natural inner joy.

The yoga of loving devotion — connecting with Krishna through chanting, hearing the Gītā and Bhāgavatam, offering our food and our work, and serving others. It requires no fee or prior qualification; anyone can begin at home or at the temple, exactly as they are.

Karma is the law of action and reaction — every selfish act binds us to its result, in this life or the next. Work offered to Krishna, however, creates no bondage. That is the Gītā’s art of living: act diligently, but for His pleasure rather than the fruit.

Prasadam means “mercy” — vegetarian food first offered to Krishna with love. The offering sanctifies the cooking and the eating; honouring prasadam nourishes both body and soul, which is why every temple gathering ends with a feast shared freely by all.
